I have learnt...................

Blog #8
Taking this course, I have come to realized that integrating technology into classroom instruction means more than teaching basic computer skills and software programs in a separate computer class. The integration of technology across curriculum will enhance the learning process. In particular, it will support the four key components of learning: active engagement, participation in groups, frequent interaction and feedback, and connection to real-world experts. Digital students enjoy using modern technologies therefore will serve as motivator. Effective technology integration would be achieved when the use of technology is routine and transparent and when technology supports curricular goals.
I also see technology changing the way teachers teach, offering educators effective ways to reach different types of learners and assess student understanding through multiple means and enhancing the relationship between teacher and student.
I think when technology is effectively integrated into subject areas; teachers will grow into roles of advisers, content experts, and coaches.
Watching this video, I saw it worth to share, because it outlines ten top reasons to use technology in education.

The narrator said something that scared me, and made me felt the future of educators without the knowledge of  instructional technology are in jeopardy. He said “ teachers will not be replaced by technology, but teachers who don’t use technology will be replaced by those who do”
Do you agree with him?

  1. As defined by dictionary.com, a ditigal native is one who is born after the introduction of digital technology and has interacted with technology since they were small. It reminds of my children. They are digital natives, my son is 11 years old and my daughter is 4 years old and they know how to use a phone or computer much faster than other whose generation wasn't exposed to technology, like my mother. There are many reasons to why students demand technology, this You Yube video is a great example, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_A-ZVCjfWf8, technology inspire students to apply higher order thinking level, engages, and motivates.

  2. I do agree with the narrator and that teachers need to be able to use technology to be marketable in the modern classroom. This change is already beginning with districts requiring teachers to do lessons and grades online. At our district, our teacher appraisal/evaluation includes technology usage in the classroom. As 21st century educators, teachers need to have the following skills to be successful (Unk, 2011):

    •adaptor
    •communicator
    •learner
    •visionary
    •leader
    •model
    •collaborator
    •risk taker

  3. Adelina, I agree with your statement, "I also see technology changing the way teachers teach, offering educators effective ways to reach different types of learners and assess student understanding through multiple means and enhancing the relationship between teacher and student." I think teachers (especially teachers) have forgot who their customers are. Parents have options for education outside of the free public education we are offering. If public schools don't jump on the opportunity they will miss the train. Parents will chose educational depots that offer the latest and greatest opportunities for their children.
